I’m heading to a karate tournament soon, and this time I’ll be traveling by bus and plane instead of driving. Normally, I pack my gi in a suit bag when I travel by car so I can hang it up and avoid wrinkles.

Normally, I pack my gi in a suit bag when I travel by car so I can hang it up and avoid wrinkles. It’s a heavyweight gi for kata. For this trip, I’m thinking of folding it and bringing a small garment steamer, but I’m wondering if anyone else has a better method for keeping their gi looking sharp when traveling for tournaments. If you’ve got any tips or packing strategies, I’d really appreciate the advice! Thanks in advance!

Ironically, I would have preferred the mini travel clothes steamer. I travel a lot for work and it would have shown thought. I got plants and popcorn. I am notoriously horrible with plants and struggle with gardening due to a bad back. I love popcorn but have a bulk of the exact popcorn bought. Now, I have no issue with these gifts because whatever, it’s Mother’s Day, it doesn’t need to be anything crazy gifts wise. I have issue with the zero effort into planning the day despite me telling him exactly what I want to do and arranging the weekend so we had the day free. I’m honestly fed up with the lack of effort, if I have to plan then I might as well do it myself and without the snippy asshole in tow. I ended up doing the hike I wanted by myself which made me sad to see all the families around me but my family makes me pretty sad too.

I am traveling for work and staying at a very very nice hotel. Today morning, I needed to iron some clothes for the week but there wasn’t an iron in my room, just a steamer.

Location: California TLDR: asked hotel for an iron, the one they gave me had a damaged cord with exposed wire I did not see, when I went to plug it in I got shocked and sparks came out leaving soot on my hand. Right arm has felt weird all day, muscle spasms, tingling up and down, hand, weakness. Went immediately to urgent care, I have sinus arrhythmia, higher than normal creatine kinase ( which doctor said might be a sign of muscle damage). What now? I am traveling for work and staying at a very very nice hotel. Today morning, I needed to iron some clothes for the week but there wasn’t an iron in my room, just a steamer. I called the front desk and request one, a few minutes later and employee comes to my room and hands it to me. I go to plug it in and I feel a jolt through my arm and sparks fly from where I plugged it into. Shocked and surprised, I froze for a bit as my brain struggled to process what was going on. Once my brain restarted, I realized that the place where the cord and plug joined was damaged, exposing the wire. I had plugged it into one of those outlets that was built into the desk (thank god it wasn’t directly into a wall outlet, otherwise the shock would have been worse) so I disconnected the desk from the wall outlet, and slowly unplugged the iron as it was a electric fire hazard. This is when I realize my right arm is not working as it usually is. I have tingling up and down my hand and forearm, my tricep is spasming and I can’t keep my hand steady. I also notice the soot on my hand from the sparks and go to wash it off. I experience a stinging sensation as I run it through cool water. My grip is weakened and it just overall feels like my arm isn’t responding properly to what my brain wants it to do. Scared, I go drop off the iron back and the front desk to let them know they sent me a really defective one that shocked me. He asks me to sit while he gets someone or he can have another iron delivered to my room. I was feeling very shaken from the whole experience so I just said I am going back to the room. After around 20-30 minutes of researching and coming to my senses, the weird feeling in my arm do not go away and I decide to walk to the nearby urgent care. The shock happened around 11:30 and I get to the urgent care sometime between 12-1. From when I arrive to 4:15ish, they run my vitals (which come back fine), and the doctor examines my heart and breathing. She then asks me to squeeze her hands with mine and notices that’s even though I am right handed, it has significant weaker grip than my left right now. She then orders blood work to check for CK (creatine kinase) which is a marker for muscle damaged and an EKG to check my heart. The CK comes back higher than the normal but not so high for significant muscle damage. The EKG comes back as a normal sinus rhythm but with a sinus arrhythmia which I don’t usually have. They prescribe me a muscle relaxer because my entire right arm feels like I pulled every muscle and then it cramped. I walk back to the hotel and the manager on duty and other front desk ask me to write my side of the incident for the report. I can’t write well because of the shock so I ask one of them to write for me. I retell the story as it happened from my side as they transcribe it onto the blank sheet of paper, and then they ask me to sign it. I struggle but I sign it messily. It’s now 10pm the same day and the uncomfortableness remains in my arm with my speed of movement and range back but it still feels sore and weak. Family members and friends have said I need to demand compensation from the hotel but I wanted to ask here to see from a legal standpoint what grounds do I have. As well as what should I do next?

This steamer is good for quick touch ups before work when I don’t have time to pull out my full size streamer. It works ok for its size and price, but it’s certainly not the same as a full size streamer. It takes longer to release wrinkles.

This is my first time using such a device, and I was really surprised at how convenient it is. It heats up quickly, smoothes the fabric smoothly, and you do not need to take out an ordinary iron with a board. Lightweight, fits well in the hand, and does not take up much space. For quick fixes, it's just great. I am completely satisfied.

Hi friends & cruise experts - I will be boarding my very first cruise with my partner. We are in our late 30’s. Please share any tips, suggestions, do’s & don’t’s… I’ve never been on a cruise so I have no idea what to expect. I love to be prepared so share away. I used the clothes steamer for the first time and underestimated how hot it gets. I was steaming my sweater and while pointing the steamer at my chest where the wrinkles were, I immediately got burned.

This was 3 days ago, first it got red, second day it did blister a bit and today seems like the blister has subsided but still very red. I have been leaving it alone as I’m worried putting anything on the underboob would trap moisture. But I’m afraid of scarring there so I’m seeking help. What do I put on it to help it heal faster now and minimize scarring later? Aloe vera, oil, bandages, scar tape?? Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering if it is worth it to have the dress professionally steamed before I put it in the garment bag for travel? Is it going to get wrinkled anyway? Bringing a travel steamer with me in anticipation that I will have to do at least touch up steams when we arrive.

I don’t know what your situation is, but my bridal shop was extremely helpful with this. They knew I was having a destination wedding so at my final fitting (about a week before the wedding) told me bring a carry on luggage and they would steam and pack it for me, which I picked up the day before my flight. It was a huge dress but they managed to get it to fit (pro-tip, turn the dress inside out! Somehow makes it easier to condense and doesn’t leave harsh creases on the outside of the dress) and I was able pack it to get it home. Not a wrinkle on it, I didn’t even need the travel steamer, but I would bring one just in case!

I don't understand... how could you NOT notice this and go out like that... with that wrinkly tablecloth?? And those ballerina/granny ass slippers. It's not even expensive to buy a steamer for your clothes. I know why: BECAUSE YOU'RE CHEAP and a RAT and you know nothing about class or sophistication no matter how expensive your clothes are you always have like a talent to make them look cheap. You could make designer brands look fake.

Was glad to have the Rowenta Pure POP Handheld Garment Steamer to use on my child's graduation gown. The gown had fold creases in it and a bit wrinkled coming out of the bag. I hung it up for a few days nut no help. I pulled out this steamer and went to work. The steamer worked easily and well. Got the gown straight. Nice and neat. Only problem is that the water tank was small.

I am obsessed with my Nori! I just got it in the mail and I used it on multiple different pieces in my closet. It is so easily accessible for everywhere use and super comfortable in the hand. I am obsessed and not only is it functional it is also super cute!
